Innisbrook renaming golf holes for Republican National Convention
Lincoln, Eisenhower, Nixon, Regan, and Bush are all former Republican presidents. Now they are also golf holes at Innisbrooke Golf and Spa Resort in Palm Harbor.
During the week of the Republican National Convention, the holes on Copperhead Course will no longer be known by their numbers. Each hole will be named after one of those Republican presidents, starting with Lincoln and ending with Bush.
"There have been 18 Republican presidents in the history of the United States and ironically we have 18 holes of golf,? said Mike Garrow, Innisbrook Golf Resort.
The resort is making the change to appeal to the out-of-town guests who are expected to tee off that week.
"We?ve created some special materials that we?re going to hand to them that will talk about the 18 past Republican presidents and highlight some of the key points of their presidency, and relate those to some of the characteristics on the actual golf course,? resort spokeswoman Ramona Hurley said.
There will be a few cutouts of Abraham Lincoln scattered around the course so players can take pictures with him and post the photos to their social media accounts.
"We just wanted to show the delegations how much we appreciate them to do something special that ties into their agenda,? Garrow said.
Innisbrook is expecting about 1,000 people to be at the resort during the convention. The spa and other resort amenities will be available for them during the RNC.
