Can I get into Rutgers psychology program? - Public Speaking

VICTOR Asked: Can I get into Rutgers psychology program?

I have always been fairly smart I suppose but I have never done my work in school. My GPA is very low (2.76) mostly from freshman year, but my junior year was not great either.
I am currently a Senior and I am taking a pretty heavy course load and keeping up with my work. I have an AP Psychology class as well as a college Public Speaking class and I am in my fourth year of taking Italian. I am also taking Pre-Calculus.
My SAT scores were not bad and I still plan on re-taking them. I had a 630 in writing, a 580 in critical reading and a 530 in math. I know that math is low and critical reading could be better so hopefully I will get those up when i re-take them.
I have some EC's which is 4 years of Drama Club and 2 years of Gay-straight alliance.
I am a New Jersey resident.
What do you think my chances are?

You need to be in the top quarter of your class to have a reasonable (not guaranteed) chance of admission. If you are only in the top half of your class, you have a possible, but unlikely, chance of admission. These statements apply to Rutgers?New Brunswick in general, not to the psychology program.

Hi Victor

Unless you are definitely capable and willing to go after a graduate degree, Psych is one of the most useless majors ? along with Soc, Crim Justice and anything with the word "Studies" in it.

You can compare your credentials to the most recent admitted class at Rutgers-NB here:

Other excellent schools in NJ include TCNJ and NJIT. Think seriously about another major ? it will be your main job credential for the first couple of jobs after college.
